Nhulunbuy Day 1 - A Day Of Reflection

As a lot of you already know the reason for me being in Gove is because I am in transit to Den Haag (The Hague) in The Netherlands. My wife Karin and 3 year old son Matthew left Geelong in Victoria a week ago. Last Monday a big container came and loaded all our furniture for Rotterdam and we enjoyed a week on the Gold Coast and Brisbane in Queensland before both Matt and Karin flew out yesterday and I came to Gove.

It wasn’t without its drama’s with our Taxi being involved in an accident not far from the airport. Thankfully we are all okay and we made it to our respective flights on time.

Last night I arrived in Gove at 8pm and was greeted by Craig Edwards at the airport. After 15 minutes of unpacking and cleaning up, we heading down to the Animal Bar at the Walkabout Hotel for a dozen or so Bundy’s and Coke.. Like most other sessions we missed the last courtesy bus and staggered home through the desolate streets of Nhulunbuy at midnight stopping only to talk to the odd native.

It was a good time to reflect on my conversations in Brisbane with Smiffy on Ewe’s, Ray Crawford and theories on Space Junk and other terrestrial activity, Chris Martin on Argentinean and Brazilian stations he had heard over the years.. Yes there was a lot to ponder and chat about to Craig on that long walk home.

Today has been one of rest and relaxation. I feel it is just the calm before the storm. Weather conditions are a very pleasant 28C, not bad for the middle of winter.

This afternoon we are heading out for a educational session with Aboriginal children. Craig is doing some cooking on the beach with his co-worker Beth. So I am looking forward to mingling with some of the kids and getting a first hand look at some of the children in the top end.

It will probably be a late night session at the dials. K Index is currently 2 and Unsettled to active with the slight chance of minor storm periods. So conditions maybe interesting.
